What will you need to guide your dog?
(1) A shipping crate of a size to fit your pug when he/she is an adult. It should ONLY be adequate for the dog to stand up comfortably and turn around (for reasons that will turn out to be apparent later on).
(2) Secondly you should select a proper “potty area” for your dog.
(3) You must select an appropriate “Potty Sign”.
(4) Your puppy's desired snacks. I find small pieces of hot dog (the sausage) work great and your dog will love them!.
(5) A non ammonia cleaner required for any accident spots. If you can get one that is made specifically for pets, they are the best. You must be able to find one which is called "No Go". You can purchase this from pet stores or catalogs.
(6)You should have a proper schedule to know your pugs needs.
(7) Above all you require a little bit of time and patience!.
The type of crate and its importance which you will need is defined below :-
If you can obtain the molded, fiberglass type of crate used when shipping by air that is the best type. This will be converted into your dog's "den" and - believe it or not - he will grow to admire it. Your dog will remain in his crate at all times when you are not paying him your full attention.
The most significant feature you should keep in mind is to purchase a standard sized pug dog crate so that your dog can move freely in it. It is also important to buy a crate divider because it reduces the size of the dog crate's "living" area while house-breaking pug puppies. It permits just enough room for sleeping.
One of the most vital points is maintaining a chart to know the daily routine of your dog. You must note down his playtime, his potty timing, wake up time etc. so that you don’t face any difficulty. All such timings can be recognized to you after observing his regular activities for at least a week.
Your pugs can understand his “potty area” if you regularly pick your dog up and take him to the similar place. It is also important to get his preferred snack with you.
Stay with your dog and have him on a lead if possible. You absolutely must not play with him. Your dog should learn from the beginning that this is not playtime or walk time, it is "potty time."
The moment the pup begins to relieve himself, say the word that you have selected for your potty word. It may be "go potty", "hurry", or anything you like. Just pick a word and don't change it! As the pup is eliminating, repeat your chosen word in a pleasant and praising tone of voice..
Praise your pug puppy when he potties on the designated area. After potty take him inside and offer favorite snack to him. It is important to take him outside exactly after food or playtime. You should repeat this sequence till evening.
If you want your puppy to stay clean all through the night don’t offer food and water to him after 10:00 p.m. Employing the use of a dog crate in your home will provide your dog with a place he can call home therefore provide him with warm bedding. It is also necessary for you to shift the crate near your bedroom during the night.
(I have observed that a cold puppy is soon a "wet" puppy.) Most puppies will settle in fairly well if they are close to your bed. When the pup wakes up in the morning, he will kick up a fuss to go out. Remember your areas and treats!
